The honest verdict: the Sealy Posturepedic Plus Brenham Firm is the firm member of Sealy's targeted-support hybrid family, and it is built for the people a soft bed keeps failing: back and stomach sleepers who wake up with a sore lower back. At a genuine firm (about 8 out of 10) on a substantial 13.5-inch build, it keeps you up on top of the bed, hips lifted and spine level. It runs the same targeted-support coil system as the medium Albany, reinforced under the hips and lower back, just tuned firm. If you want Sealy's "beat aches and pains" support in a firm feel, this is it.

What it's made of, and what that does for you

  • Response Pro HD encased coil system, tuned firm. Individually wrapped coils reinforced through the center third, under hips and lower back, so the firm support never goes hard or hollow.
  • SealyChill gel comfort foam. A firm-feel, gel-infused comfort layer that pulls heat off the surface and takes the bare edge off the coils without softening the support.
  • ComfortSense memory foam. A responsive layer that adapts to your shape and eases pressure points while keeping the firm feel intact.
  • DuraFlex reinforced edge. A firmer perimeter so the full surface stays usable, the side holds when you sit, and the bed flexes on an adjustable base.
  • Breathable, antibacterial cover. Engineered to sleep clean and breathe, working with the coil airflow to run cooler than a dense all-foam build.

What you notice lying on it, and living with it

Lie down on your back and you feel that you are on the bed, not in it. The gel and memory foams give a thin, firm cushion at the surface and the coils push back underneath, so your hips do not keep sinking and your lower back stays level instead of folding into a hammock. That is what people mean when they say a firm Sealy holds your middle up. On your stomach, the same firm feel keeps your hips from dropping, and at the edge the DuraFlex perimeter holds you instead of caving.

Share the bed and the wrapped coils help: each coil moves on its own, so when your partner turns over or gets up early, most of that motion stays on their side. On temperature you rest higher on the surface than you would sink into all-foam, and air moving through the coil layer plus the breathable cover helps it sleep cooler than a dense all-foam bed. Give it about three weeks to settle in, and know it is built to flex on an adjustable base.

Who it's not for, said straight

  • Side sleepers, an 8/10 firm will press on your shoulder; the medium Albany is the better fit.
  • If you want a leaner, more accessible firm, the Medina Hybrid Firm is a similar firm feel on an 11-inch standard-tier build.
  • If you want a deep memory-foam hug, this is a supportive coil hybrid, not a sink-in foam bed.

How it compares in the Sealy lineup

Next to the medium Albany, the build is the same family and the same targeted-support coils, just tuned firmer, so the Brenham is the back-and-stomach answer where the Albany suits side and combination sleepers. Next to the Medina Hybrid Firm, both are firm 8/10 hybrids, but the Brenham is a Posturepedic Plus model on a taller 13.5-inch build where the Medina is a standard Posturepedic on a leaner 11-inch profile: the feel is close, the difference is height and tier. Switching off an old bed that sagged in the middle, this is the firmer, more supportive direction.

Sealy's targeted support, tuned firm
How it's built

Sealy's targeted support, tuned firm

The Posturepedic Plus Brenham Firm is a hybrid, which means real coils under real comfort foam, built bottom-up to hold a firm feel without ever going hard or hollow. Here is the stack, top to bottom, and what each layer actually does once you lie down.

SealyChill gel comfort foam. The top layer is a gel-infused comfort foam with a firm, supportive feel. It pulls heat off the surface and gives you a thin, firm cushion so the coils underneath never feel bare.

ComfortSense memory foam. Just below, a responsive memory-foam layer adapts to your shape and takes the edge off pressure points at the shoulder and hip, without softening the overall firm feel.

Response Pro HD encased coil system. The heart of the bed. Individually wrapped coils are reinforced through the center third, under your hips and lower back, where bodies sink most. That is Sealy's targeted support, and it is why a firm Brenham holds your spine level instead of folding into a hammock. Wrapped coils also move on their own, so a partner's shifts stay on their side.

DuraFlex reinforced edge. A firmer coil perimeter rings the whole mattress, so the side holds when you sit, the full width stays usable, and the bed flexes cleanly on an adjustable base.

Same targeted-support family as the medium Albany, just tuned firm. Want a leaner, standard-tier firm? See the Medina Hybrid Firm (11 inches). Compare both in the Sealy lineup, then come lie on the firm in a Kentucky showroom.

What's inside Sealy Posturepedic® Plus Hybrid

Who sleeps best on it

Firm support for back and stomach sleepers

Back sleepers. This is the sweet spot. Firm targeted support keeps the spine level and stops the lower back from folding into a hollow, so you wake without that morning ache.

Stomach sleepers. The firm feel keeps your hips from dropping below your shoulders, which is the alignment stomach sleeping needs. A medium would let the pelvis sink.

Couples. Wrapped coils localize movement so an early riser does not wake the other side, and the DuraFlex edge keeps the full width sleepable instead of just the middle.

Hot sleepers, with a caveat. Resting on top of the coils plus the gel foam and breathable cover runs cooler than sinking into dense all-foam. If heat is your single biggest issue, say so on the floor and we will put a dedicated cooling Sealy beside it.

Heavier or larger-framed sleepers. The reinforced center third and HD coil core give firm, steady pushback under load, the kind of support a thin all-foam bed loses fast.

Probably not for you if you sleep on your side (an 8/10 firm will press the shoulder, so try the medium Albany), you want a deep memory-foam hug (this is a supportive coil hybrid), or you want a leaner firm (the Medina, 11 inches).

Frequently asked questions

How firm is the Brenham Firm?

A genuine firm, about 8 out of 10 (10 is firmest), built for back and stomach sleepers. Sealy's targeted-support coils keep it supportive rather than hard, while the SealyChill gel and ComfortSense foams take the bare edge off. If you want medium, see the Albany.

What is Sealy's targeted support?

Sealy reinforces the Response Pro HD coil system through the center third of the mattress, under your hips and lower back, to keep your spine aligned. It is the heart of Sealy's "beat aches and pains" engineering, and you feel it as a bed that holds your middle up instead of letting it sink first.

Is this a good firm mattress for back pain?

For back and stomach sleepers, a level spine is usually what eases morning aches, and that is exactly what the targeted center-third support is built to do. Firmness preference is personal, though, so the honest test is ten minutes lying on it in your real sleep position. Come do that at any of our Kentucky showrooms before you commit.

Will it work for side sleepers?

Usually not the best pick. An 8/10 firm tends to press on the shoulder and hip when you are on your side. Most side sleepers are happier on the medium Albany, which runs the same coil family with a softer surface. We will set the two side by side so you can feel the difference.

How is it different from the Medina Firm?

Both are a firm 8/10 hybrid with targeted support. The Brenham is a Posturepedic Plus model on a taller 13.5-inch build; the Medina is a standard Posturepedic on a leaner 11-inch build. The feel is close, the difference is profile and tier. Feel both in the showroom and let the height and price decide.

Does it work with an adjustable base?

Yes. The hybrid build and DuraFlex reinforced edge flex cleanly on an adjustable base. If you want a base to match it, the floor team can show you compatible options across our Kentucky showrooms.

How does it sleep for temperature?

Cooler than a dense all-foam bed. You rest higher on the coil support rather than sinking in, and air moves through the coil layer while the SealyChill gel foam and breathable cover pull heat off the surface. If staying cool is your single biggest concern, tell us on the floor and we will compare it against a dedicated cooling Sealy.

How long until it feels right, and what if it does not?

Give any new mattress about 21 nights to settle while your body adjusts. You have a 90-day in-home comfort guarantee on top of that: if the feel is not right, you exchange it for store credit toward any bed of equal or greater value (pay the difference, no cash refund, and no restocking-fee games).

What warranty and certifications come with it?

It carries a 10-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects, and the foams are CertiPUR-US certified for content, emissions, and durability. The 90-day comfort guarantee is separate and covers whether the feel is right for you.

Can I see this mattress in person near me?
