    How the gap is set. For a medium frame the drawing uses 6.5 in. of loft for a side sleeper, 5 in. on your back and 4 in. on your stomach, inside the ranges Purple, Casper, Malouf and Tempur-Pedic publish. A small frame takes half an inch off and a large frame adds half an inch. A soft mattress takes a little off, a firm one adds a little. The number at the pillow's end is each maker's published loft, measured before a head presses in. Under the head every pillow is drawn pressed in by the same share, because makers do not publish how far their fills compress. Makers also measure differently, so treat a close match as a place to start.
