What is IntelliCoil?
A spring inside a spring. The tall outer coil gives under light pressure, so the bed feels soft where you're light. As more weight settles, the shorter inner coil takes the load and the bed firms up under your hips. The Estate, Lux Estate and Reserve have it. The Studio uses wrapped coils without the inner spring, and the Lux Hybrid puts memory foam on each spring.
Pillow top or flat top?
A pillow top is an extra layer of cushion sewn onto the top of the bed. It adds half an inch to an inch and a half of height and a softer first touch. A flat top (the trade calls it a tight top) puts you closer to the coils, so it feels more direct. Side sleepers usually like the pillow top. Back and stomach sleepers often prefer flat.
Is the Reserve worth the jump from the Lux Estate?
You get 20% more IntelliCoil HD springs, a hand-tufted top, navy velvet on every side, and a microcoil layer in the Soft and Firm pillow tops. Whether you can feel that is personal. If one is on a floor near you, lie on it for ten minutes before you decide.
Do I need deep-pocket sheets?
Yes. Every bed here is 13.5 to 17 inches tall. Plan on deep-pocket sheets, because standard fitted sheets fight a mattress that tall.
